Gone - Free 50' Sailboat hull (Deer Isle ME)

50 foot yawl

49'-6" Cold Molded Sailboat Hull.

Originally built in Montana in the late 90's and transported to Maine as a project boat.

The designer of the boat is Tim Evans from British Columbia.

The boat was constructed by a one-man outfit in Montana using Cedar cold molding techniques and West System Epoxy. Unfortunately, the construction techniques were discovered to be incorrectly applied, at least in part. As a result, there has been some layer delamination in the hull which would require removal of 2 layers of fiberglass cloth and then serious "digging" to get to the problem areas.

The hull has been inspected by 2 independent professional surveyors, both of which are highly respected within the Wooden Boat community. Both surveys suggested that the hull was compromised but could be repaired. These surveys were both done approx. 15 years ago and copies could be made available to serious parties. My family has owned the hull since it was brought to Maine and has been under cover all this time. Our lives have all moved on and there is no place left in our future to repair this boat.

The hull itself is free to a good home and is sitting on a steel trailer which could be used to tow the boat (with a very large truck) to its new home. There is a 12k lb lead keel for the boat which would be available for purchase at the current scrap rate (Approx $0.90/lb).

There is also a NEW Perkins 4-108 diesel installed in the boat which would not be included in the "free" price but could be negotiated as a package deal. If the interested party doesn't want the engine it will be removed prior to the boat being towed off. We have all the lines for the boat on lofting boards and those would be included in this offer.

We also have a barn full of materials which could be purchased at a negotiated rate if desired. This boat is NOT a small project and will likely represent many tens of thousands of dollars of investment to whomever takes the boat, along with years of hard work.

The end result could be a gorgeous vessel which could take you to all corners of the globe, but it is critical to understand that "Free Boat" doesn't mean you'll work for a couple summers with spare change from the couch cushions to get things up to snuff. Far more details are available to those who are truly interested in this unique offer.
